It is a classic irony. Many Nigerians decline to get involved in the electoral process to represent the majority on good governance.

But the same citizens want quality and sincere representa­tion in the mode of servant leadership at all levels of government. It’s a similar scenario to not paying taxes and then haranguing government to fulfil the social obligation­s due to tax-payers.

Some would argue that the average citizen’s vote hardly counts during elections because final victory only goes to who the governor or political godfather selects; thus no need to come out and cast a ‘valueless’ vote. But nature doesn’t exist in a vacuum. The student who makes the most noise in a classroom is more likely to become the class captain faster than the cerebral student who studies quietly in a corner.
