A WILD GOOSE CHASE? IFEANYI UBA SETS TO CONTEST FOR ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP TICKET
Ambition in a private man is a vice but in a prince, a virtue. Were oil mogul, Ifeanyi Ubah, a crown prince of some political monarch, he would probably be the governor of Anambra State today. But he isn’t, and that makes all the difference in his bid. Still smarting from a twoweek detention he was clamped into for allegedly tampering with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation N11billion worth of petrol kept in his tank farm and having to refund N2billion out of the money, the controversial businessman has tossed his hat into the ring for the Anambra governorship ticket of the People’s Democratic Party once again. It is not the first time the founder of Capital Oil and Gas would be contesting for the governorship ticket. He did it in 2014. And now that the oil and gas industry is no longer what it used to be, sources close to him are wondering how he intends to fund the election considering again the many strong forces he has to contend with and, importantly, the debt overhang. Early last week, the caretaker committee of the party named the seven aspirants that had obtained the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms for the election scheduled for November 28. They include former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah, former Miss Nigeria and former member of House of Representatives, Lynda Ikpeazu, Alex Obiogolu, Oseloka Obaze, Okechukwu Emeka and Ubah. The rambunctious, self-styled billionaire however seems unfazed by the formidable opposition as he continues to tour the length and breadth of Anambra State in his quest.
