Police Raise the Alarm over Increasing Rape, Car Theft Cases in Plateau

Say 40-year-old man impregnate­d daughter three times in Kano

The Plateau State Police Command yesterday raised the alarm over the increasing cases of rape and car theft in the state, cautioning residents to be more careful.

The alarm came as the Kano State Police Command disclosed that a 40-year-old Nuruddeen Abubakar of Unguwa Uku quarters in Kano was found to have allegedly raped his 14-year-old daughter.

In a statement signed by the state Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr. Tyopev Terna, the command advised the public to get pedal and steering locks for their vehicles.

“Also, they should also inscribe their vehicle numbers on their windscreen, side mirror and other vital parts of their vehicles to reduce incessant removal of vehicles from where they are packed.”

The command further appealed to religious leaders to enjoin their security men to extend their security checks beyond the entrance of worship places.

“They should extend vigilance to vehicles parked with the vicinity to deter criminals from removing them and valuables kept in the vehicles.”

While advising parents and guidance to keep watch over their children and wards because of the worrisome rise in the cases of rape in the state, adding that they must be vigilant against “randy men and men of the underworld taking advantage of them.”

The command advised the public to leave in peace with one another and desist from taking the laws into their hands, and should always report their grievances to the nearest police station for appropriat­e action.

Meanwhile, in Kano, the sate police spokesman, Magaji Musa Majia, in a statement noted that the daughter also survived three different abortions after the father raped her.

According to him, the situation has become alarming as cases of rape, incest and unnatural offences have gone up to an unpreceden­ted level

.Majia added that within just two weeks, the command has recorded 34 cases which in essence are translatin­g to an alarming situation if efforts are not set out to curb them.

He stated that 15 pending cases of sexual assault would be transferre­d to SCIID for discreet investigat­ion from various divisions.

The statement revealed that one Pastor Samuel John of No. 26 Whether-head, Sabongari in Kano, was also arrested for raping 13-year-old twin sisters and their sister, 11.

According to him, also, Dahiru Haruna and Hamza Lawan all of Sheka quarters in Kano conspired and “acted in an unnatural manner against their 9-year-old male victim.”

The police spokesman vowed that all the suspects who confessed to the commission of the crime would be prosecuted.

He added that one Musbahu Ibrahim, 25, of Zangon Marikita quarters in the city was arrested for severally raping his cousin’s sister.
