2,000 Students Write Transfer Screening Test in Lagos

-

A total of 2,000 students seeking transfer into public schools in Lagos State for the 2017/2018 academic session recently wrote a screening test amidst commendation to the government for the initiative.

The first edition of the written examination is aimed at testing the applicants’ academic capabilities for the class they applied for in the public schools.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, who led a monitoring team to assess the conduct of the test which held simultaneously in the six education districts of the state, expressed satisfaction with the conduct. He said the test was aimed at creating free level playing ground for the students as the improvement in the service delivery in public schools as evident in the results of external examinations, including national and international competitions has been attracting more students into its primary and secondary schools.

He said the result of the exercise would be ready on August 23 and parents of the successful applicants will be notified through SMS to the phone number supplied to give enough time for them to prepare for the September 11 resumption date in the state.

Speaking at the Wesley Girls Senior Secondary School, venue of the screening test for District IV, Mr. Tajudeen Owolabi thanked the government for making the exercise transparent and providing a level playing ground for all interested students to compete for the available vacancies in public schools of their choice. He said the performance of students of the public schools informed his decision to change his child’s school.

At the Ikeja Senior High School, Bolade Oshodi, centre for District 6, a parent, Mrs. Eligbame Dorita, expressed excitement at the opportunity given to the students, saying that she thought only those who were connected would be considered for the transfer, as she knew there are limited spaces.
