Market records gains consecutive as it appreciates by 1.42%
Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today - Thursday, September 7th, 2017 ended positive as the market closed green. This was further highlighted by positive performance from the NSE Subsectors: Consumer Goods (Save Banking, Insurance and Oil & Gas). However, trading activities decreased in volume as 222.69 million shares worth N4.17 billion in 4,622 deals exchanged hands today. This is a decrease from the 281.84 million shares worth N5.42 billion in 4,066 trades were carried out on Wednesday. Topping in volume terms are: Sterling Bank Plc, Royal Exchange Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc; while Nestle Nigeria Plc and Zenith Bank Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms. Brent crude oil price today currently sells at US$54.31 per barrel while it closed at $54.20 per barrel the previous Wednesday.
The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed positive with 1.42% (+507.12) increase to close at 36,116.19 from 35,609.07 the previous trading day. Market capitalization appreciated in tandem to N12.45 trillion from N12.2 trillion of prior trading day. Similarly, the Thisday BGL 50 Index closes with a increase of 1.49% to 152.38 from 150.14 recorded at the end of the previous trading day, while its market capitalization stood at N11.86 trillion from N11.69 trillion of the previous trading day.
A total number of 19 stocks gained on the bourse today while 22 stocks declined, leaving 48 stocks unchanged. Leading the pack again was Guinness Nig. Plc led with a gain of 10.23% to close at N96.33 per share. It was followed by Dangote Cement Plc with a gain of 4.73% to close at N216.91 per share. Others on the gainers’ list include: AIICO Insurance Plc, Flour Mills Nig. Plc and Africa Prudential Registrars Plc. On the decliners’ list: Seplat Petroleum Dev. Co. Ltd led with a loss of 5.00% to close at N457.90 per share. It was followed by NCR Nigeria Plc with a loss of 4.91% to close at N6.97 per share. Others on the decliners list include: May & Baker Nigeria Plc, Skye Bank Plc and FBN Holdings Plc.
Guinness Nig. Plc re-emerged the toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 10.23% to close at N96.33 per share. It was followed by Dangote Cement Plc with a gain of 4.73% to close at N216.91 per share. Others on the gainers chart include: AIICO Insurance Plc, Flour Mills Nig. Plc and Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc. On the decliners’ list, Seplat Petroleum Dev. Co. Ltd led with a loss of 5.00% to close at N457.90 per share. It was closely followed by Skye Bank Plc with a loss of 4.76% to close at N0.60 per share. Others on the decliners’ list are: FBN Holdings Plc, Transnational Corporation Of Nigeria Plc and FCMB Group Plc.
