Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today - Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 ended negative as the market closed red. This was further highlighte­d by negative performanc­e from the NSE Subsectors: Consumer Goods and Oil & Gas (Save Banking and Insurance). Also, trading activities increased in volume as 634.33 million shares worth N5.79 billion in 3,850 deals exchanged hands today. This is a decrease from the 235.82 million shares worth N3.83 billion in 2,809 trades were carried out on Thursday. Topping in volume terms are: FCMB Group Plc, FBN Holdings Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc; while Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms.

The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed negative with 0.38% (-133.89) decrease to close at 35,306.09 from 35,439.98 the previous trading day. Market capitaliza­tion appreciate­d in tandem to N12.17 trillion from N12.22 trillion of prior trading day. Similarly, the Thisday BGL 50 Index closes with an decrease of 0.39% to 148.56 from 149.11 recorded at the end of the previous trading day, while its market capitaliza­tion stood at N11.57 trillion from N11.61 trillion of the previous trading day.

A total number of 18 stocks gained on the bourse today while 22 stocks declined, leaving 63 stocks unchanged. Leading the pack again was C&I Leasing Plc led with a gain of 9.82% to close at N1.79 per share. It was followed by Learn Africa Plc with a gain of 6.76% to close at N0.79 per share. Others on the gainers’ list include: Caverton Offshore Support Grp Plc, N.E.M Insurance Co (Nig.) Plc and Union Bank Nig. Plc. On the decliners’ list, PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc led with a loss of 6.81% to close at N24.23 per share. It was followed by Unity Bank Plc with a loss of 5.00% to close at N0.57 per share. Others on the decliners list include: United Capital Plc, Cadbury Nigeria Plc and Sterling Bank Plc.

Guinness Nig. Plc emerged the toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 3.67% to close at N98.50 per share. It was followed by Lafarge Africa Plc with a gain of 2.64% to close at N52.02 per share. Others on the gainers chart include: Zenith Bank Plc, FBN Holdings Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc. On the decliners’ list, PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc led with a loss of 6.81% to close at N24.23 per share. It was followed by Unity Bank Plc with a loss of 5.00% to close at N0.57 per share. Others on the decliners’ list are: Cadbury Nigeria Plc, Sterling Bank Plc and GlaxoSmith­Kline Consumer Nig. Plc.
