House Ad-hoc C’ttee on Political Agitations Unveils Work Plan

The House of Representa­tives Special Ad-hoc Committee on Political Agitations in Nigeria yesterday unveiled a work plan on how it intended to go about the national assignment.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Sulaimon Lasun Yussuff, who chairs the 16-member committee said relatively peaceful zones would first be visited while useful submission­s would be made within the first two weeks of the assignment.

He said the committee would soon call for memoranda from the general public through electronic and print media to be received at the zones.

Going by the work plan drawn by the secretaria­t of the committee, there’ll be direct consultati­on with state government, local government, ethnic interest groups, registered political parties, Civil societies, youth, women and the handicappe­d, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), traditiona­l/religious institutio­ns and other interest groups.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Wole Oladimeji, the lawmakers would be expected to visit the six geopolitic­al zones across the country to ensure a wide consultati­on with opinion leaders and other various interest group with a view to collating their inputs.

The House had passed a resolution to immediatel­y revisit the issue of devolution of powers in the interest of the unity of the country in the wake of recent agitations.

It also resolved to set up a strong committee to liaise with all stakeholde­rs across the six geopolitic­al zones for practical solutions to rebuild the country’s fragile unity.

House Majority Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiami­la (APC, Lagos), who is the deputy chairman of the special committee moved the motion under matters of urgent national importance.
