- LAGOS TO ATLANTA...AHMED UWHUBETINE TURNS KING OF NIGHT LIFE IN THE US EYO EFFIONG’S QUIET 50TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION OCHOLI’S KIDS…FRIENDS AND FAMILY DESERT SURVIVING CHILDREN OF BUHARI’S EX-LABOUR MINISTER

Like the proverbial panther with myriad lives, Ahmed Uwhubetine has bounced back on his feet from the dust and intrigues of his fall. There is no gainsaying the former boss of now defunct 11.45 nightclub, located on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, waded into troubled waters. Things got extremely rough for him a few years ago and the fun loving dude decided to relocate to Atlanta, USA. There he picked the broken pieces of his life back together. But while many of his friends and associates

wrote him off thinking he would never bounce back from his misfortune, a select few believed in him. And the latter stood by him through thick and thin. Today, Ahmed has bounced back in Atlanta. He has re-established his club, called Elleven 45, in Atlanta Georgia, USA. Ahmed is very popular in Atlanta and he effortlessly draws the finest species of womenfolk ranging from blacks, blondes, brunettes, to Asians. Back when he was the toast of the Lagos party crowd, Uwhubetine rocked Lagos from the eaves to the foundation. No sooner than he established his 11.45 nightclub on Awolowo Road, his place was assured in the pantheons and circuits of Lagos high society. The entrance of the Delta state indigene into the Lagos party scene earned him unparalleled rave reviews and in a short while, his nightclub became the favourite hang-out for many a celebrity and the Lagos party crowd. Then suddenly he lost his magic touch and his business suffered rapid deterioration and eventual collapse. Let’s hope he will do better by his second outing in the US.

Like the early dew which moistens blooming bougainvillea, Abuja wellconnected man of style, Eyo Effiong, ornamented Nigeria’s high society with uncharacteristic verve and aplomb. Indeed, we must not measure greatness from the mansion down, but from the manger up. Many a rich man giddy with power, carry himself with a false sense of modesty but Eyo Effiong is remarkably different. There is no gainsaying that Eyo is a modern man with wisdom of the ancients. Eyo who lives for the glitter and noise of the celebrity arena, yet, kept his 50th anniversary low profile just like his former business partner, Yemi Ishola. Long before now, Yemi and his erstwhile partner, Eyo Effiong, used to run the popular but now defunct Made on Earth boutique on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi; Mega plaza and GRA Ikeja, before the fashion business became an all-comer’s affair. They were the go-to-guys for high street fashion accessories and all. And they made good in the business before they parted ways. Though Yemi still runs Formular, Eyo has since moved into real estate. What Eyo lost in Yemi, he has regained in many other high profile friends including Folly Coker. Not surprisingly, many friends still gathered round him, popping champagne and downing expensive cognacs in celebration of the coming of age of a man who they described as genial and generous and one of the most stylish in his generation. Another question that has been begging for an answer is; where is Apinke Effiong? Have you seen her lately?

Death is never endearing. It is never splendid or replete with bliss. Thus everywhere it visits, it devastates, like the brute end of a bloody saber. Tragedy invaded the
