Adeniran Urges Fayose to Drop Presidential Ambition

Makarfi cautions against breach of peace accord

Former Minister of Education and a chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Tunde Adeniran has asked the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose to reconsider his ambition to vie for president in 2019.

Adeniran’s position came just as the chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi cautioned supporters of aspirants against certain actions that are clearly in breach of the peace accord they signed on to.

While speaking on the possible clash of interest between him and his state governor, Fayose, the former minister said that going by the zoning arrangement by the party, which zoned the presidency to the north and national chairman to south, there will be nothing of such.

He said that he has no doubt that Governor Fayose would respect the party’s decision on zoning of the presidency and subsequently back his chairmanship aspiration.

“My governor that you referred to was interested in contesting to be president of this country and I believe that he thought that well it will be impossible for us to have the president and national chairman from the same place.

Now, the more he realizes that the party has taken a decision that our president by the grace of God as for 2019 will come from the North, the more he will see the reason to stand by the method decided by the party and that he will support his brother Adeniran for the chairman,” he said.

Adeniran who spoke to journalists on his chances shortly after submitting his nomination form at the PDP’s headquarters yesterday, said that he is very confident that Fayose will lead the Ekiti state delegation to support him at the convention.

Adeniran said he would among other things strive to restore full internal democracy to the party, correct some of the mistakes of the past, restore the vision of the founding fathers of the PDP, and consolidate democracy.

He listed some of the problems afflicting PDP to include lack of unity and cohesion among members.

The aspirant said Nigerians are yearning to change the present administration because many things have gone wrong in the affairs of the country.

“We will strive to ensure fairness, equity and Justice.

We have to reach out to talent and professionals which are in abundance in the country use them to develop the country,’ he said.
