- Mary Ekah

As one of Nigeria’s most prominent boardroom gurus and titled chief in Yorubaland, late Balogun Bisi Omidiora journeys to eternal rest, his exemplary life style is being celebrated. During a commendation service held in his honour at the Cathedral Church of St .Jude, Ebute-Meta, Lagos, recently, he was described by the Bishop, Diocese of Lagos Mainland, Rt. Rev. Akinpelu Johnson, amongst others as a leading example who played important roles is supporting the church during his life time.

“Omidiora was a child of God to the core. He was an exemplary elder. He made suggestions for every major decision that were taken in the church and most importantly, he committed his resources and time to the building of the church. He was a quiet but constructive socialite. He built and enjoyed building. And he was never an arrogant elder. He performed excellently well,” the cleric said during a sermon at the commendation service.

Omidiora, Johnson said, has left a legacy of selfless and dedicated service to God and to mankind, adding “He has fought a good fight and may he receive the crown of life from God.” He encouraged the family members, friends and associate to take solace in beauty of life, the rich legacy he left and the exemplary life he lived.

Omidiora died on 18 September, and he was aged 83. Sadly too, his death occurred barely a year after that of his wife of 56 years, Eyinade Oyindamola, the daughter of late Oba Adesoji Aderemi, former Ooni of Ife. She passed on at the age of 81. Omidiora, who held the revered title of Balogun of Ile-Ife, was the Chairman, Body of Past Presidents, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a former executive director, UAC Plc.
