NPA Salutes Female Operators, Designates Lily Pond Terminal for Agro-produceExport

The Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has expressed confidence in the special ability of the women folk in an effort to enhance the Maritime Industry and improve the nation’s economy through incursion into areas supposedly dominated by men.

Speaking at the Tincan Island Container Terminal Limited (TICT), at the unveiling of first set of professionals in the whole of Africa to be trained in the Operation of Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG) (a specialised Cargo Handling Equipment), the Managing Director of the NPA, Hadiza Bala-Usman

poured encomiums on them for being champions, who are able to work effectively in a new environment, saying that “the sky is indeed their limit.”

Earlier, the Managing Director of TICT, Etienne Rocher stated that the company has set a record of training the first set of Nigerian ladies, who can successfully operate the RTG in the whole of Africa and that TICT, is proud to be a trail blazer in this area.

Rocher further stated that the ladies have favourably performed in this field and adding that in the long run, their efforts would help to retain Nigeria as one of the biggest players in the Maritime sector and in the sub region.

Meanwhile, the NPA has reiterated the designation of the Lily Pond Terminal in Ijora and the Ikorodu Lighter Terminal, Ikorodu specifically for the Export of Agro-produce.

Delivering, a goodwill message on “Nigeria Agricultural Integrated Export Control Plan Zero Rejects Initiative on Agric-Produce,” in Lagos, Bala-Usman stated that the organisation would work conscientiously towards achieving the Government Export Agenda.

Bala Usman, assured the stakeholders that works had already commenced on the reconstruction of the access roads leading to the ports in Apapa, adding that security around the axis have been beefed up in collaboration with security agents.
