NOTYETUHURU FOR SENATOR SOLOMON ADEOLA
If there is one aspirant who is working hard to actualise electoral dream in 2019, it is Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, aka Yayi.
The senator, who is currently representing Lagos West Senatorial District at the Upper Chamber, is leaving no stone unturned towards becoming the governor of Ogun State after the expiration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
It is believed that handsome Adeola is driven by reasonable ambitions. He is an incurable dreamer. And luckily, most of his dreams have come true, as evidenced by his current position.
His dream of becoming a governor received a boost recently when some monarchs as well as a youth forum from Yewa endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the gubernatorial race.
This reportedly rattled other aspirants from the same area, a development that gave him hope.
However, it is not yet time for victory dance. Spyglass gathered that the billionaire politician has some hurdles to cross. Indeed, the odds against him are mountainous.
A source revealed that despite the endorsement from some sections of the people of his immediate constituency in Yewa, many are still opposed to his ambition because he is seen as a Lagos politician who, according to them, has lost touch with his roots. It was also learnt that the governor has a preference for another candidate from Yewa. It is alleged that Amosun may use the obnoxious power of incumbency in favour of his preferred candidate.
Adeola, a distinguished chartered accountant established his own firm, SOOTEM Nigeria Limited, after many years of working for several companies,
Following his decision to join active politics, Adeola, also a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation as well as a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), pitched his tent with the progressive arm of Nigerian politics by joining the then Social Democratic Party, SDP. In spite of the daunting challenges occasioned by the military interregnum, Adeola bravely remained in politics till the dawn of the 4th Republic. Adeola won the primary of the then ruling Action Congress, AC, and was subsequently elected to represent Alimosho Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2007 to 2011.
A man of immense financial and political skills, he is reputed to have been instrumental to the enactment of the law that strengthened the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, a legislation that cata- pulted the revenue of the state from N5bn to over N20bn monthly. He was also part of the team that passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the Public Procurement Act of Lagos State.
