NIPRVows to Flush Out Quacks

- In Kaduna

John Shiklam

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has vowed to flush out quacks within the profession.

National Vice President of the institute, Mukhtar Sirajo, stated this in Kaduna during the orientation and documentation of newly registered members of the Kaduna state chapter of the institute.

Sirajo said only licensed people would be allowed to practice as Public Relations (PR) professionals.

He explained that the NIPR was being rebranded to ensure that unqualified and unlicensed people are identified and dealt with according to the law.

He said the war against quackery was yielding results, disclosing that just recently, a suspected quack was arrested in Suleja, Niger state and was being remanded in prison custody after being charged to court.

He told the new members that the purpose of the orientation and documentation was to acquaint them with the ethics of the profession and the ongoing efforts to re-brand NIPR.

He said the institute has embarked on regular training and e-training for its members to update their knowledge and skills and urged the new members to take advantage of the training opportunities to sharpen their skills.

“Anybody who is practicing, we must asked him of his license and that is why the institute is giving the new members windows to regularity” he said.

Speaking earlier, chairman of the Kaduna state chapter of the institute, Mohammed El-Nafaty, urged the new members to strive to upgrade their knowledge in order to catch up with latest trends in the profession.

He said the orientation was to enrich their knowledge and capacity on techniques and skills of public speaking and communication as major tools for public relations. He called on the new members to participate actively in the activities of the chapter as those who fail to participate would end up being delisted.
