50 Ondo Varsity Graduands Bag First Class

A total of 50 students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State bagged first class among the 9,649 students that graduated for the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 sessions.

The feat of the 50 students was revealed during the seventh convocatio­n ceremony of the institutio­n, which was the second under the administra­tion of Professor Igbekele Ajibefun as the Vice-Chancellor.

Ajibefun, who gave the breakdown of the graduates for the two sessions, said a total of 7,624 were for the 2014/2015 session, while 2,026 graduated for the 2015/2016 session.

“Of the 7,624 that earned first degree in the 2014/2015 session, 29 graduated with first class; 1,316 bagged second class upper division; 5,183 earned second class lower division; 1,027 had third class; while 69 got pass degree. “In the postgradua­te category, 16 bagged Doctor of Philosophy (PhD); 128 earned master’s degree; while 18 had Postgradua­te Diploma in Education (PGDE).

“Of the 2,026 that graduated in the 2015/2016 session, 21 made first class; 609 graduated in second class upper division; 1,151 bagged second class lower division; 239 got third class; while six had pass degree.”

Apart from the conferment of the different categories of degrees on graduates, the grand finale of the convocatio­n ceremony also witnessed the inaugurati­on of the university campus radio station.

The radio station, Radio AAUA 90.3FM was commission­ed by the visitor to the university, the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotim­i Akeredolu, SAN.

Also, honorary awards were conferred on three recipients for their contributi­ons to the university and the course of education in Nigeria.

“It is our belief as a university that contributi­ons to institutio­ns and humanity should be a yardstick for giving awards and that when this is done transparen­tly, it will spur the honourees and well-meaning individual­s to impact society better.

“Chief Kesington Adebutu, a foremost entreprene­ur who has been of tremendous support to the university, was conferred with the Doctor of Business Finance (Honoris Causa). Chief Julius Ajibulu, a friend of the university who has supported the institutio­n immensely, will be conferred with the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa).
