Nigerian engineers have been advised to become solution providers, particularly in the area of infrastructural deficit, as well as other problems confronting the country.

Mrs. Titi Omo-Ettu, who gave the advice recently during the fourth engineering induction lecture at the Bells University, Ota, for the 2017/2018 engineering graduates titled ‘Engineers as Total Solution Providers in the Emerging Knowledge and Information Age’, said engineers are expected to provide solutions to societal challenges. Charging the students, she said, “today’s engineer looks right, sees a human problem, develops solution to it and sells his/her solution to the highest bidder who he must also find.” Her advice was encapsulated in what she calls ‘10 Things’ young engineers should accept responsibility that they are the solution providers of today, must read widely, train continuously and synergise with other professionals.

“To make this effective, they should work in teams. They should see their environment as their constituency, communicate effectively, be fair and ethical and learn to choose wisely.”

In his remarks, the ViceChancellor, Professor Jeremiah Ojediran commended the college for always hosting the annual ceremony with the best brains as the guest lecturer to deliver the inspiring lectures.
