- City in Benin

Adibe Emenyonu A farmer in Igodi quarters of Ojah in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State identified as Arowolo Jerome has lost his right hand, to an attack by suspected herdsmen in the locality.

Jerome was said to have been attacked at his farm after he refused to give food to five herdsmen who he encountered on his farm.

A source at the hospital where he was rushed, quoted the victim as stating that the cutlass was aimed at his neck but he used his hand to block it and it was severed before he was rescued by another farmer who saw the attack.

Meanwhile, another source said the herdsmen attacked Jerome because some of their cows died after grazing in his farm.

A member of the vigilante group in the area who did not want to be named, said two of the attackers had been arrested.

The vigilante said the attackers entered Ojah through a bush path from Okpella axis and saw Jerome working at his farm.

He said he saw them trying to cut off his head which made him to use his hand to block his head and started shouting for help.

It was gathered that a combined effort of other farmers and hunters led to the arrest of two of the attackers who have been transferred to Police Area Command in Auchi, Estako West Local Government Area.

Police spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be reached for comment.
