Luck yesterday ran out on a member of suspected armed robbery gang during an early morning operation in Ogun State.

The robbery incident occurred at Ososa Junction, along Sagamu/ Ore expressway.

It was gathered that the suspected armed robber, numbering about six, had as early as 2:30a.m. yesterday taken over and blocked the highway with long sticks and heavy stones before they started dispossessing motorists that rammed into them of their valuables.

But following a distress call received, it was learnt that operatives attached to the Federal Special AntiRobbery Squad (FSARS) led by its Commander, Uba Adam, raced to the scene of incident during which the suspected armed robbers engaged the operatives in crossfire, lasting about 45 minutes. And at the end of the ensuing encounter, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer who confirmed the incident, disclosed that one of the robbers was shot dead, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said two locally made single barrel guns and 78 live cartridges were recovered from the gang.

He stated that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ahmed Iliyasu, commended the officers and men of the FSARS for their prompt response to the distress call and appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals to quickly informed the police any time they see anybody with gunshot wounds in their areas.
