PGA Nigeria Holds Qualifying School in Jos
The Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN) will hold a Qualifying School to admit new entrants into the body in Jos, between January 22 and 28, THISDAY has gathered.
It will be the first Q-School to be organised by the present PGAN Committee headed by Samson Lawal, since the last exercise in Kaduna in January 2015.
This year’s Q-School comes up at Lamingo Golf Club and will feature 93 male applicants, attached to accredited resident professionals as trainees in the past two years.
THISDAY checks revealed last night that about 21 former amateur golfers, the most talented of the pack, will be absorbed as PGAN members after the rigorous seven- day grilling.
Success at the Q-School will entitle the new entrants to the status of professional golfers on the Nigerian tour and will also open the door to pre-qualify for the Open Championship and other professional tournaments in the world.
Izang Ayuba came top at the last exercise, which similarly produced Kamalu Bako and Mohammed K. Haruna, both who have proceeded to play on international tours, notably Equatorial Guinea Open.
An examination panel set up by PGAN Committee will award scores to the entrants at the end of the exercise. Aside from ability to play golf, the other parameters which the panel will use to evaluate the participants include; knowledge of rules and ethics of golf, speech making, golf equipment mending and written test.
There are presently 180 members in PGAN classified as regular and senior tour members.
