Schools Resumption: Adebule Tasks Heads of Schools on Compliance

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Oluranti Adebule has called on proprietors and school administrators to ensure compliance with the state government’s unified resumption date to improve the standard of education.
A statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, Mr. Emmanuel Olaniran read: “the Deputy Governor, Dr. Oluranti Adebule warmly welcomes students in public and private schools, as well as principals, head teachers, teachers and proprietors in Lagos State back to school.
“The 2017/2018 second term academic activities commences immediately on Monday, January 8, 2018. All students in public and private schools are expected back in school.”
In another development, Adebule has commended the retirees of the Office of Education Quality Assurance for setting the pace for a vibrant, committed and result oriented legacy for improved educational standard in the state.
She thanked the retirees for setting the pace for the betterment of the state education system below tertiary level with assured improvement and sustainability of standard.
The deputy governor, who was represented by the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Ganiu Sopeyin, gave the commendation at an end of the year party and retirement celebration organised by the agency to appreciate its retirees and reward exemplary officers.
She also commended the awardees for exemplary discharge of their primary assignment and encouraged them not to rest on their oars.
The State House Committee Chairman on Education, Mr. Lanre Ogunyemi also commended the outstanding retirees and the awardees, saying, “to you officers who have retired, be assured that your work will continue to speak for you while for you the awardees, the upper rung of the ladder is where you are destined in your career.”
The Director General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo said since inception, the collective, determined and committed efforts of the officers and evaluators have helped improved the quality and standard of the education system below tertiary level in the state.
She disclosed that the Whole School Evaluation (WSE) exercise, a statutory responsibility of the agency, has continuously and consistently been embarked on. “It is heart-warming that schools across the state graded fair and poor are now been graded good and very good due to OEQA’s intervention in both public and private schools resulting to improved learners’ performance.”
She added that since the beginning of the exercise, the quality and standard of teaching, security around schools, learning environment, safeguarding and child protection, checkmating of examination malpractices, subject accreditations, admission racketeering and observation of open day activities across schools in the state six education districts have improved tremendously.
“Further achievement includes training and retraining of evaluating officers on Education Management Information System (EMIS), training and retraining of head teachers of public primary and secondary schools and proffering amicable solutions to matters affecting learners and staff of educational institutions.
“The OEQA’s projection and development plan this year will be in pursuit of new strategies in intervention practice with a view to further improve learning outcomes in schools, training of evaluators for improved performance and furthering enlightenment advocacy,” Soyombo said.
The highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of gifts to the retirees and rewarding outstanding evaluators and other outstanding staff of the OEQA. Ogunyemi also presented cash gifts to the best evaluator male and female categories and the best staff.
