Two-year Contract Extension for Rohr Sealed

Eagles to get day-off for WAGs in Russia

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has signed a two-year contract extension with Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr.

NFF 1st Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi, explained yesterday that Rohr, initially taken on board in July 2016, deserved the extension after qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals, even with a match to spare.

“He has done a very good job and when someone does a good job, he gets a reward. We are proud to have taken Mr. Rohr on board and we are delighted to be signing this contract extension with him,” he noted.

Rohr, who played as a defender and has coached Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and Gabon national teams before landing in Nigeria, expressed joy at the extension of the relationship, while insisting that the Super Eagles players and officials must remain level-headed and focused going forward.

Throwing light on the chances of his wards at Russia 2018, the Franco-German remained optimistic that Nigeria will do well.

“After beating Argentina in that friendly in Russia, I believe nobody is going to take Nigeria for granted now,” observed the coach.

He however warned Nigeria to be humble in expectations. “We need to be humble and not be overtly optimistic because other teams are equally ambitious of winning the trophy.”

Asked if he was going to allow Eagles to go with either their wives of girlfriends (WAGs) to the World Cup, Rohr said strict camp rules will be maintained.

“Players are going to be given day off after each match to be with either their wives or girlfriends. We want our players to have the best frame of mind while at the World Cup without distractions,” concludes the coach.
