BAOSA: Why We Chose to Invest in Education

- Ayodeji Ake

While several associations embark on different community projects, the Baptist Academy Old Student Association (BAOSA) has emphasised its dedication to the development of education.

Recently, at the 2017 Annual Reunion Dinner and Awards Ceremony held in Lagos, the President of BAOSA, Mr. Lanre Idowu spoke on some of the projects accomplished by the association, listing the inauguration of a standard library, an Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) centre with about 90 computers, and the rehabilitation of the school hall.

Idowu further explained that the promotion of education is not only the duty of the proprietor. “Education today cannot be left alone to the school proprietors. The parents, students and the alumni associations and the community in which the school is situated, all have a legitimate concern in ensuring that schools should be nurtured so that they can maintain their pride of space,” he said.

The immediate past president of BAOSA, Chief Olatunde Onakoya, narrated how the politicians left the school in a sorry state in a bid to achieve their aim which is the main reason for BAOSA intervention to redefine the school.

“This is its first of its kind and we have laboured for many years to try and see if we can put up this sought of reunion because the school has suffered from a number of disparagement when the politicians came and took over the school, they messed up a lot of things, and the school was in a sorry state. By this, we thought of gathering the old students until few years ago when we discovered sets of enthusiastic student who are devoted to the transformation of the school,” he said.
