NCC Takes Code of Corporate Governance Workshop to Kano

- Emma Okonji

Consistent with its industrywide consultative approach and stakeholders’ engagement for effective regulatory oversight, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will on Thursday, February 15, 2018 host a sensitisation workshop on the Code of Corporate Governance for the Telecommunications Industry in Kano.

The Kano edition is the third in the series of the sensitisation workshops by the Commission, across the geopolitical zones.

The inaugural one was held in Lagos, August 11, 2017, while the second was in Enugu on November 16, 2017; Kano will be the third zone to host the workshop.

The Code of Corporate Governance for the telecoms industry, which was introduced in July, 2014 and reviewed in 2016, outlines the minimum global best practices covering processes, procedures and general corporate behaviours for the telecommunications sector operators.

The code, which was introduced on voluntary compliance, has since transited to mandatory compliance framework with monitoring and enforcement regime in full effect.

The workshop in Kano is in furtherance of stakeholders’ engagement with the Northwest geopolitical zone in line with the consultative plan of the Commission and has therefore invited Industry players, network operators and stakeholders across the zone to the event, slated for the Bristol Palace Hotel, Farm Centre of the ancient City of Kano. The Commission solicits the buy-in and support of all stakeholders.

The Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Mr. Tony Ojobo who announced the Kano forum, said the keynote speaker would be President, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mr. Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud (SAN), while the Chairman of the NCC Board, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye and the Executive Vice Chairman/ CEO of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, would be hosts of the workshop.
