LG Polls: Police in Kano Warn Candidates, Parties against Violence

Security operatives in Kano State yesterday warned candidates and political parties against violence ahead of the Saturday local government elections in the state.

They also the electorate not to indulge in any act capable of causing mayhem during or after the elections.

Addressing candidates and party leaders, ahead of the polls, the state Commission­er of Police, Rabi’u Yusuf, said politics is not about violence or thuggery.

Yusuf, who is the Chairman lnter security agencies forum, appealed to the candidates and party leaders to play the game according to the rules by avoiding campaigns that might breed any unpleasant consequenc­es because politics is not a do-or-die affair.

“We the security agencies in the state do not belong to any political party. Ours is to provide security, and as such, I will like you, contestant­s and party leaders, to talk to your electorate, about your products, and at the end, they can vote for the candidate of their choice.

“I am sounding a note of warning to you, we will not tolerate violence or carrying dangerous weapons during the elections. Anyone caught will face the wrath of the law.

“There will be restrictio­n of movement on the election day. After casting your vote, you are advised to immediatel­y leave the area because we shall not condone loitering.”
