Foundation to Provide Free Fertility Treatment to 20 Couples

- Martins Ifijeh

The Fertility Treatment Support Foundation (FTSF) ,has announced its readiness to provide free fertility treatment to 20 Nigerian couples who have compelling infertility stories but are unable to pay for treatment.

The Foundation says the high cost of treatment all over the world has remained a challenge for couples, as this has denied them the opportunity to access fertility treatment and the joy of completing their families.

In a press conference to announce the offer in Lagos recently, a Trustee of the Foundation Dr. Abayomi Ajayi and an Executive Member of the Foundation, Mr. Onuora Molokwu, said FTSF was encouraged by the results from its previous interventions in the area of free fertility screening and treatment.

Ajayi said FTSF commenced operations as a non-profit organisation in 2008 with a mandate to provide free fertil- ity screening and treatment to couples with a compelling infertility story, but are financially challenged.

“Last year we embarked on its annual call for entries and got five couples to receive free treatment. From this number, two have confirmed pregnancies while one is scheduled to have a pregnancy test next week. This year, we are planning to do 80 free screenings, from where we will select five couples every quarter, making a total of twenty for the year that will qualify for free treatment,” he added.

Molokwu said he enjoins interested couples to visit the foundation’s website or its social media handles to receive information on how to qualify for the free treatment programme.

“We also call on well-meaning individuals and corporations to join hands with FTSF to support this initiative which we believe has the potential of allowing many more couples enjoy the joy of parenthood.”
