Bestman Games Launches a Different Kind of Monopoly

- Solomon Elusoji

A leading African games company based in Lagos, Bestman Games, has launched a new edition of Hasbro’s iconic Monopoly Board game it has called the ‘City of Lagos’ Monopoly Electronic Banking game.

The game is the modern spin on the classic Monopoly game; and this edition reflects changes in how the real world uses money: transactions are conducted with Monopoly’s new banking card system instead of cash.

“As we inch closer towards a cashless economy,” a statement from the company said, “this educational board game shares the same philosophy: buy, trade, and win the electronic way. It exudes the same high-quality aesthetics and fun game play that will ensure that it is well received by generations of families.”

At the launch, which was held in Lagos, Founder and CEO of Bestman Games and one of Nigeria’s best-known entrepreneurs, Nimi Akinkugbe gave a passionate address recounting Bestman Games creative and entrepreneurial journey, and the bold steps the company is undertaking to establish Financial Literacy Clubs in schools providing children and students with life skills that will steer them to financial security.

CEO, Financial Derivatives Ltd, Mr. Bismark Rewane, who was also present at the launch, gave an excellent presentation on ‘Cashless Lagos: Making the Blind Spots Visible’, taking the audience on a journey from barter exchanges, through coins, bank notes, cheques, debit and cards, telephone and online banking, and cryptocurrencies. All over the world, the trend has been for governments and financial institutions to pursue policies to reduce the volume of cash in the system. In some developed countries one can do almost entirely without the use of hard cash and electronic means of payments far outstrip cash transactions in much of the industrialized world today.
