Dayton University Announces Groundbrea­king Partnershi­p with Nigerian Students

Henceforth, Nigerian students who desire to study at the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA will be given the rare opportunit­y to qualify for undergradu­ate admission with WAEC and will be exempted from sitting the U.S. equivalent of JAMB called the SAT. This also means Nigerian students are exempted from applicatio­ns fees too.

This groundbrea­king partnershi­p was announced by representa­tives of the institutio­n in Nigeria during a press briefing held in Lagos recently.

The University of Dayton is a private, Catholic school in Ohio located about an hour north of Cincinnati and about an hour west of the state capital of Columbus. Students at the University of Dayton can choose from more than 80 undergradu­ate majors and many graduate programmes, including those in the schools of business administra­tion, law, engineerin­g and education.

The university’s staff recently visited Nigeria to evaluate the Nigerian curriculum at both secondary level and university levels and eventually concluded that Nigerian students will be exempt from additional entrance exams and given partial merit scholarshi­ps if they have good grades.

Consequent­ly, undergradu­ate students with distinctio­n average will automatica­lly qualify for a 10,000 USD academic scholarshi­p per annum. Students who are seeking postgradua­te admission who have a 2:1 or First Class will be awarded a 5,000 USD academic scholarshi­p.

Founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary, the university continues its Roman Catholic traditions with a strong emphasis on volunteeri­sm, serving the community and turning students into young leaders. The holistic environmen­t of the University of Dayton with strong emphasis on ethics, values and Marianist traditions is gifted with faculty and staff who are attentive and accommodat­ing.
