The International Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase-Ipo in Irepodun Local Government Council of Kwara State has matriculated 123 pioneer students as part of the state government’s efforts to empower youths with skills.
The college was established by Governor Abulfatah Ahmed to reduce youth unemployment and social vices among the unemployed youths in the state. It was inaugurated by Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo last year. Since then, the management of the college has been working hard to ensure that activities kick off so as to enhance the provision of technical know-how for youths in the state.
The matriculating students cut across all the 16 local government councils of the state with the aim of training them on how to acquire skills for their future development.
Speaking at the event recently, the Rector, Mr Ade Somide said the students would be exposed to various skills in about 35 courses being offered by the college.
He said the tuition fees have been subsidised by the state government to give them the opportunity to pursue their courses in the college.
He added that the students would spend only three months at the college and after that they may come back to pursue further diploma courses that are available to them in order to boost their talents.
In a bid to support indigent students, Rotary Club District 9110, Nigeria, through its District Educational and Welfare Endowment Fund (DEWEF), has awarded scholarship of N100,000 each to 25 indigent undergraduates from Lagos and Ogun States. The scholarship will run throughout their undergraduate programme.
