Unknown gunmen yesterday killed three policemen and kidnapped one Abdul Nasir, an engineer and a Syrian national working with Triacta Construction Company in Sokoto State.

THISDAY check yesterday revealed that the gunmen stormed the quarry in a car with tinted glasses and attacked the place.

The gunmen reportedly opened fire on the policemen immediately and kidnapped the foreigner working as the manager of the site.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto Police Command, Cordelia Nwiwe, confirmed the incident to journalists.

She said the incident occurred at the company’s quarry site at Lambar Mazaru village in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Nwiwe said the three policemen guarding the premises were confirmed dead in the hospital, while the foreigner was abducted and taken to an unknown place.

She however, said that the affected policemen received treatment at an undisclosed hospital after they were shot during a crossfire while attempting to rescue the foreigner.

The PPRO stated that armed policemen had been deployed to the area in order to rescue the foreigner.

She added that the police had commenced investigation into the matter with a view to freeing the abducted Syrian national and arresting the culprits.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the slain policemen had been deposited at the mortuary of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) appeal committee has rectified the ward and local government congresses held in Imo State, effectively putting paid to the state Governor, Rochas Okorocha’s efforts to reverse the outcome of the congresses.

The approval by the committee came just as members of the Imo State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Hon. Acho Ihim, stormed the APC national secretariat in Abuja last Tuesday along with some party stakeholders from the state to protest against the outcome of the congress.

Okorocha had earlier met President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo to protest alleged malfeasance during the last two congresses in his state and to demand their cancellation.

However, the appeal panel report has dismissed the petition
