Right Academy, Phonix Lift MRS Kids Cup

Right Football Academy and Phonix Football Academy have both won the boys and girls 2018 MRS Kids Cup at the Campos Mini Stadium, Ajele, Lagos last weekend.

Right Academy of Lagos Mainland came from a goal down to beat River Football Academy of Yaba 2-1 in the boys final. Phonix Football Academy of Iganmu trounced Victory Queens of Ikorodu 3-1 in the girls final.

Prizes and awards were later presented to winners with the eventual winner going home with N300,000, runners-up N250,000 and third placed teams got N200,000 in both categories.

Jubril Azeez of Right Academy was voted the Most Valuable Player(MVP) of the tournament, Rilwan Yusuf of also Right Academy won the best goalkeeper and Edmund Idowu of River Football Academy won the highest goal scorers award with six goals.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, Andrew Gbodume, expressed satisfacti­on over the performanc­e exhibited by all participat­ing teams.

“I’m highly expressed with all the players, with this performanc­e I believe the future of football in Nigeria is in the grassroots and also urged the players to focus on their education to run sideby-side with football”, Gbodume said.

Ex-Internatio­nals, Peter Rufai and Augustine Eguavoen were part of the dignitarie­s that watched the final. Rufai described the MRS grassroots developmen­t tournament as a laudable gesture.
