Po­lice Pro­mote 3,665 Se­nior Of­fi­cers


Two CPs to AIGs, 16 DCPs to CP Se­na­tor Iroegbu

The Po­lice Ser­vice Com­mis­sion (PSC) has ap­proved the pro­mo­tion of 3,665 se­nior po­lice of­fi­cers, in­clud­ing 16 Deputy Com­mis­sion­ers of Po­lice (DCP) el­e­vated to the rank of Com­mis­sion­ers of Po­lice (CP) and two CPs to As­sis­tant Inspector Gen­eral of Po­lice (AIG).

The Head of Press and Pub­lic Re­la­tions, PSC, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, in a state­ment yes­ter­day said the pro­mo­tion was one of the high points of the com­mis­sion’s 28 Ple­nary Meet­ing, which ended in Abuja on June 8, 2018.

Ani said the ple­nary meet­ing was the last of­fi­cial func­tion of the PSC Board Chair­man, Mr. Mike Okiro, whose ten­ure came to an end on June 11, 2018.

He said: “Two Com­mis­sion­ers of Po­lice, Ig­bodo O. David, CP Le­gal, Force Head­quar­ters, and Olalekan Ab­dul­fa­tai, CP, Works also of Force Head­quar­ters, were pro­moted as sub­stan­tive As­sis­tant In­spec­tors Gen­eral of Po­lice (AIG).

“16 Deputy Com­mis­sion­ers of Po­lice were also pro­moted to Com­mis­sion­ers of Po­lice. They in­clude DCP Wak­ili Maye and DCP Ku­rawa Ab­dul­lahi Sarki. The com­mis­sion also ap­proved the pro­mo­tion of 13 As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­ers of Po­lice to Deputy Com­mis­sion­ers; 60 Chief Su­per­in­ten­dents of Po­lice to As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­ers and 631 Su­per­in­ten­dents of Po­lice to Chief Su­per­in­ten­dents.”

He also listed those pro­moted to ACP to in­clude: Mshe­liza Simi

Ma­somene; Samuel Os­man Onoja of Po­lice Col­lege, Oji River, Enugu State; La­teef Adio Ahmed and Umar Kabir among oth­ers.

Pro­moted CSPs in­cluded Adekunle Char Ige, Bassey Es­sang, Li­man Sal­isu Su­laiman and Em­manuel Adam.

Ani also stated that the com­mis­sion ap­proved the pro­mo­tion of 820 Deputy Su­per­in­ten­dents of Po­lice to sub­stan­tive Su­per­in­ten­dents, in­clud­ing Ola Rosanla, Yusuf Ab­dul­mu­mini and John Ale­sagba.

Oth­ers, whose pro­mo­tions were ap­proved by the com­mis­sion, were 1,922 As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dents of Po­lice (ASPs) pro­moted to Deputy Su­per­in­ten­dents. They in­cluded ASP Chi­jioke Og­bodo, Di­vi­sional Po­lice Of­fi­cer, Umumba in Enugu State; Arukwe Ed­ward and Ozochi Amaechi Mar­cel, Area Crime Of­fi­cer, Abaka­liki, Ebonyi State.

He also said 201 In­spec­tors were pro­moted to As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent of Po­lice (ASP).

The spokesman said the com­mis­sion also ap­proved con­fir­ma­tion of ap­point­ments of 42 of­fi­cers of dif­fer­ent ranks, ap­proved act­ing ap­point­ment for an­other 73 and con­verted 1,060 spe­cial­ists to Gen­eral Duty.

He said the pro­mo­tions have been for­warded to the Inspector Gen­eral of Po­lice (IG) for im­ple­men­ta­tion in a let­ter signed by Mr. Musa Isi­ti­fanus, Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary/ Sec­re­tary to the com­mis­sion.

Af­ter much spec­u­la­tion, the im­me­di­ate past Gov­er­nor of Ondo State, Oluse­gun Mimiko, yes­ter­day re­signed his mem­ber­ship of the Peo­ples Demo­cratic Party (PDP) with a plan to re­turn to Labour Party (LP).

The de­ci­sion of Mimiko was ex­pressed in a let­ter he ad­dressed to the PDP chair­man in Ondo West Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area.

The let­ter put paid to the months of spec­u­la­tion on whether Mimiko would dump PDP and re­turn to LP.

Mimiko, a two term gov­er­nor of Ondo State, was elected on the plat­form of the LP in 2007 but was not sworn in un­til Fe­bru­ary 2009 when the Court of Ap­peal in Benin-city de­clared him the win­ner of the 2007 elec­tion.
