At Eid-el-Fitr, APC, PDP Differ on State of the Nation
The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed divergent positions on the situation in the country, as Muslims celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.
While rejoicing with Muslims and all Nigerians, the APC said, in a statement issued yesterday, that it remained confident that it would deliver on its promises to the electorate.
In the statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi, the ruling party solicited continuous prayers, support and cooperation of the masses on its ongoing task of building a new Nigeria.
"With all the love, blessings and peace on this joyous occasion, we wish Muslims and indeed all Nigerians a happy Eid, and may all our good deeds be accepted by Almighty Allah (SWT).
"We should continue to be prayerful and live together in peace, tolerance and service to humanity," it said
"As a Party, we remain confident that we will deliver on our promises to the electorate through ongoing implementation of the policies of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration.
"With your continuous prayers, support and cooperation, the ongoing task of building a new Nigeria for our progress, peace, unity and prosperity will be achieved," it added.
But on its part, the PDP said Nigerians are passing through a lot of suffering, poverty, lack, daily bloodletting, mental and physical torture that had created deep wounds, requiring divine intervention and healing.
In the statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party urged Nigerians to “continue to pray for the nation, particularly, as the citizens yearn for a new, purposeful and God-fearing leadership, as we approach the 2019 general elections.”
The party called for prayers for the victims of violence and bloodletting in the country and urged those behind the incessant attacks to have a rethink and end the unnecessary violence against the people.
It urged Nigerians to draw strength from the successful completion of the fasting period and bring the lessons and blessings of the spiritual observation to bear on all their dealings with one another and humanity in general, as commanded by the Almighty Allah.
