Vanity of Silverspoon Marriages! Obasanjo’s Marriage to Adebutu’s Daughter, Tope, Crashes

-

Nobody knew when or how love waned in the marriage of Olujuwon Obasanjo, the son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his wife, Temitope, the daughter of Chief Kessington Adebutu, popularly known as Baba Ijebu, but everybody knows when their marriage crashed. It was the saddest news ever. Friends and family watched in consternation as rancour and hate intruded the couple’s bliss leaving them wretched and burnt out of love. Contrary to popular belief that the couple enjoyed a great marriage, the reverse was the case. Eventually the couple fell out of love and their marriage hit the rocks thus affirming fears that they lacked the patience and enduring maturity to surmount the storms of matrimony. For their ill- fated wedding ceremony, good money was put to great use. Thereafter, the couple criss- crossed the world for their honeymoon playfully running after each other and picking pebbles on the sandy esplanade of holiday resorts while retiring under the moonlight of Europe’s scenic cities among other idyllic vacation spots. It was a wedding that was supposed to be made in heaven. Alas, few months down the line, the marriage has crashed irretrievably. It’s now crystal clear that the two strange bedfellows were forcefully united on the altar of their parents’ vanities and egotism. It’s indeed a pitiful world for these scions of the rich. Thus having married young, they keep on marrying, springing from bride to bride or groom to groom like the chamois of the Alps undeniably adept at leaping from crag to crag.

So sad! The colourful wishes, overpriced ceremonies and expensive honeymoon abroad have collapsed into heaps of sand; and the epitaphs of the grandiose enterprise called their “fairy- tale wedding,” manifests like skillfully carved inscriptions atop a grave top. Although their marriage had all the trappings fame and money could give, their marriage was probably ill- fated from the start. It is indeed sad to note that such an extravagant wedding could last for six months. Their marriage was allegedly dogged by disagreements over how things should be done and the kind of lifestyle they ought to adopt as a couple. Things generated between the couple when neither party agreed to play the meek lamb to the other’s wild cat.
