Rainy Season: Lagos Inspects Dumpsite Facilities

In preparation for the coming rains, the Lagos State Government has embarked on an inspection of dumpsite facilities across the state with a view to ensuring that operators comply with standards.

The Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti stated this while leading a team from the Ministry to the dump sites on Tuesday.

Durosinmi-Etti said that government has directed that additional platforms should be created at the dump sites, while operators of dump sites and Transfer Loading Stations have been asked to urgently apply deodorizer to douse odours emanating from waste.

He expressed confidence that a Cleaner and healthier Lagos was achievable if all hands were on deck through the cooperation of all stakeholders.

At Solous 3 and Ewu-Elepe dumpsites, where he inspected the ongoing road rehabilitation to ease the traffic and enhance the turn-around time of compactors, he urged the operators to expedite the construction of the exit road for free movement of compactors in and out of the dumpsites.

At these dump sites and Agege Transfer Loading Station compactors were seen dumping and moving in and out without hitch.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has warned Lagosians to be wary of the activities of individuals who impersonate and parade themselves as officials of the Ministry of the Environment in order to extort residents.

The Commissioner for the Environment gave this warning on Tuesday while parading Mr. Etim Okon who was apprehended while going about impersonating officers of the Ministry in the Ago Palace area of the State.

The impostor was caught while extorting money from residents in the Parkview Estate in Ago Palace through the joint effort of the enforcement unit of the Ministry and members of the community.

The commissioner urged residents to be wary of these individuals who usually deceive the people using fake identity cards, stressing that such people do not represent the government of Lagos State.

Durosinmi-Etti hinted that the Lagos State officials are usually in groups when on official duty and they are always accompanied by security agents such as the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
