700 Students Win Bronze in Duke of Edinburgh Award

Over 700 participants from public schools in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) have won the bronze category of the International Award for Young People Nigeria, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh International Award, a youth empowerment programme.
The bronze award ceremony that held for two days, aimed to recognise and reward the achievements of the young people from some of the public secondary schools in the area.
The Chief Executive Officer and the National Director, International Award for Young People Nigeria, Ms. Toyin Odu said the award in Nigeria is committed to the emotional, intellectual, physical and social development of young people.
While addressing the students and emphasising that the only barrier thy can have is self, she said the recipients underwent non-formal extra-curricular activities in skills activity, community service, physical recreation and adventurous journey.
“Our mission is to inspire, guide and support young people in their self- development and recognise their achievements. An individual that has earned the award from International Award for Young People Nigeria shows that the person is well-rounded, adaptable and committed.
“The experiences gained and skills learned become increasingly evident and the medal is a true testament of the commitment to serving others.”
The event was graced by a member of the International Trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and Chairman, Board of Trustees for the International Award for Young People Nigeria, Mr. Olawale Edun; acting Director of Secondary Education Board, Mrs. Nanre Emeje; Deputy Director Sports, Goroh Alhamdu, among others.
