Funso Lawal Plans 63rd Birthday Celebration
Anyone who undertakes to compile the list of top corporate players in Nigeria will make a grave error if he or she leaves out the name Otunba Funso Lawal, OON, CON.
His inspiring story, it was gathered, started a long time ago.
However, Lawal, over the years, has risen quietly to become a big player in Nigeria’s corporate world with an inspiring resume.
Though his contributions to the nation’s political scene have been acknowledged, the technocrat loathes any loud celebrations.
However, as the Ogbomosho, Osun Stateborn moneybag warms up to celebrate his 63rd birthday on Wednesday, July 11, many have indicated interest to honour him with their presence and prayers at his Ikoyi, Lagos residence.
It will be recalled that his 60th birthday, three years ago, was the talk of town for a long time, as it was celebrated in Lagos, Houston and Bahamas Island.
Lawal, who is also chairman of several companies, obtained both his bachelor and master’s degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wisconsin Madison, USA.
A first-class engineer, he started his career as a trainee engineer with Tenneco Oil in 1979 and became a Systems Analyst with the Control Data Corporation in Denver Colorado. He later moved to Citibank New York in 1985 as one of the pioneer staff of the bank’s new franchise in Nigeria. He rose to the position of vice president and retired in 1992 to set up a group of companies in the oil and gas, financial services and real estate sectors in Nigeria.
