Babangida Aliyu’s Political Misfortune

-

Few years ago, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, former Niger State governor was a larger-than-life character. Coupled with his intimidation frame, he was outspoken. In fact, he was a fearless politician; this fetched him the chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum.

He lived like an emperor. Not only that Babangida was instrumental to the defection of many top members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, even though he backed out later, his alleged fight with former President Goodluck Jonathan caused irredeemable crack that later led to the fall of the then ruling party.

The man who had referred to himself as the Chief Servant of Niger was carried away, he never realised until it was too late; he was swept off by the wind of change. His fall was a great lesson to many leaders.

The sodangin Nupe didn’t only fail to install his preferred successor, Umaru Gado-Nasko, his senatorial ambition never saw the light of the day as he was humiliated by David Umaru of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Society Watch learnt that he failed to win his ward. What a humiliation!

Though, the aforementioned is no longer news. Many are now surprised that the Talba Minna that controlled enormous power is now suffering from political oblivion in less than two years of relinquishing power as executive governor of the state.

We gathered that he is in desperate mission to save his political career. It was recently reported that he held a meeting with some political allies a head of 2019 but this many have denied.

‘’The former governor has suffered serious political misfortune and he is no gladiator after all as many would have thought but a mere nambypamby with dwindling political clout,’’ a source said.
