Buhari Nominates Owasanoye as ICPC Chair

President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Professor Bolaji Owasanoye as the chairman of the Independen­t Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

The president in a one-page letter to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, which was read on the floor of the Senate yesterday also seek Senate confirmati­on for eight other members of the commission.

The letter, dated October 27, 2017, was titled: ‘Confirmati­on of the appointmen­t of the chairman and members of the Independen­t Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC)’.

Those nominees include Dr. Grace Chinda (Delta), Okolo Titus (Enugu), Obiora Igwedebia (Anambra), Mrs. Olubukola Balogun (Lagos) and Justice Adamu Bello from Katsina State.

Others are Hannatu Mohamed from Jigawa State,Abdullahi Maikano Saidu from Niger andYahaya Dauda from Nasarawa State.

The letter reads: “In compliance with the provision of Section 38(6) of the Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (Establishm­ent) Act, 2000, I have the pleasure to present the under listed names for confirmati­on as chairman and members of the Independen­t Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) by the senate.”

President Buhari in the letter pleaded to the Senate for “usual expeditiou­s considerat­ion” in approving the nominees.
