Triple Celebration for T.W.O
Thirty years ago, Tunde and Wunmi Obe met each other while playing in a band. They were both undergraduates and had lost their respective fathers but they found a common ground in music. Their passion for music and entertainment ignited a spark that has stood the test of time. Ten years later, the couple wedded. It’s been 20 years they walked down the aisle together. Their love has continued to wax strong despite the increasing rate of divorce in the entertainment industry today. Tunde and Wunmi Obe, popularly known as T.W.O. have somehow found the magic cord that binds them together after three children. Also, Tunde will hit the halycon age in August.
Friends and loved ones of the couple are putting together a series of events to mark their 30 years on stage, 20 years of union as well as the 50th birthday of Tunde. The initial plan was to have a grand celebration but the untimely death of Wunmi’s older brother and Chairman of Punch Newspapers, Wale Aboderin, the event was scaled down to a remix of ‘Without Your Love’, one of the couple’s hit singles from their 2014 album ‘T.W.O. Plus’ and a birthday dinner for Tunde in August.
‘Without Your Love’ encapsulates the love and which has sustained the couple through the years.
“The truth is when we first came together, it was more of professional relationship. We found that beyond the music, there was a connection between us. I think the first thing that connected us together was that we had both recently lost our fathers who were the main breadwinners in our families. Some people will not understand when you are used to a particular lifestyle and then you lose a parent, some things change and you have difficulty adapting to that change. So we were able to connect on that level,” said Tunde.
The event which was endorsed by the Nigerian German Business Association will draw friends of the couple from the corporate world and the public sector, including Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.
