Osinbajo: The Deal is Sealed!
Some of the political commentaries on the fate of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo as the running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 have been quite distasteful. The idea alone that there is a move to drop Osinbajo has pervaded the polity especially considered as part of the winning extrapolations for the 2019 presidential election.
But this misconception was cleared last week by the Presidency, when the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said Osinbajo would run on the same ticket with Buhari, adding, “Decisive victories in senatorial and state assembly elections in Katsina, Bauchi, Kogi and states were an indication that the Buhari/Osinbajo presidential ticket that won the 2015 election will ensure an encore in 2019.”
Perhaps, those pondering the idea of a different running mate from another ethnic stock to balance, in their imagination, some of the current imbalances in the polity as well as position themselves for the 2023 elections would have to return to the drawing board for a review. At least, it is clear now that Osinbajo’s 2019 deal has been sealed.
After all, it is a known fact in close power corridor that there is a move by the cabal to upstage Osinbajo and bring in a running from the South-east, and invariably, pave the way for aYoruba Senate President, because according to them, there is a general consensus amongst theYoruba leaders that with the way incumbent Senate President Bukola Saraki has managed that office, it is definitely better to seek that office in 2019. But with this development, plans have changed.They may have to let go.The Osinbajo deal is sealed!
