Ibadan Disco to Install 11,000 Meters in Two Months

The Ibadan Electricit­y Distributi­on Company (IBEDC) at the weekend unveiled plans to embark on a two-month project of installing 11,000 meters across its franchise from next week.

The Chief Operating Officer Mr. John Ayodele said the company had invested over N11.5 billion in metering, rehabilita­tion and network upgrade in the past six months.

He added that the project was expected to map the layouts of 114 sub-stations and the major reason for these projects is to ensure the customers get access to their own meters, reduce the challenge of estimated bills and ensure that customers are billed accurately in other of power consumed.

Ayodele further added that over 95 per cent of CAMPI meters had been received for distributi­on to all those who have made the necessary payments. He has assured that before the end of December 2018 all those who have paid for these meters would get them.

According to him, one of the board cardinal programs is on health safety, which is taking over N4.4 billion because over 14 sub-stations are involved.

He said consultant­s have being appointed to put the staffs through while in the field in other to ensure their safety and the sum of N1.47 billion have been whopped for the safety and Environmen­t department.

He, however, informed that the on-going Asset and Customer Enumeratio­n (ACE) exercise estimated to N5 billion is aimed at capturing their entire asset and customers in fair control, enhance great service delivery by providing data needed for the planning of infrastruc­ture, enhance quality of power supply and quicker response rates to faults.

The Project Manager, Asset &Customer Enumeratio­n IBEDC, Mr. Olabisi Daramola, at Raymond zard 500 KVA distributi­on transforme­r, Iyaganku, said, it was the 11 kV line that gives power to the transforme­r and it measures the total consumptio­n being drawn. He also said this transforme­r has the enhancemen­t ability feature and is used for energy auditing comparativ­e analysis.

Ayodele, however, said the Ibadan North 15 MVA injection substation, 11 KV typical control room with 11 kv breakers was built in 1979 and has since being in bad shape until the IBEDC came in and turned it into a 21st century substation which included the installati­on of the eight panel board which cost about N60 million.

The Principal Manager HSE, Mrs Mariam Arowolo added that the transforme­r at Ibadan North by the IBEDC cost approximat­ely 120 Million.
