A Great Loss
It was with sadness that I received the shocking news of the death of E.C. Aguma, SAN, which sad event occurred on Friday, the 10th day of August, 2018. Chief Agums, as most of us at the Port Harcourt Bar called him, was until his demise, the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice of Rivers State, a position to which he was appointed sometime in the year 2015, by His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, GSSRS, POS (AFRICA), Governor of Rivers State. Before he became Attorney-General, E.C Aguma was a Private Legal Practitioner, and the Managing Solicitor and Head of Chambers of the Law Firm of E.C Aguma & Co. He was an erudite Lawyer, and a gentleman in every respect. He was very active at the Bar, and served first as Secretary, and later, as Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Port Harcourt Branch. As the Honourable Attorney-General of Rivers State, he personally handled several politically sensitive cases, for the Governor of Rivers State. His passing has left a very large vacuum which, I dare say, will be quite difficult to fill.
I am greatly pained, by the passing of the brilliant Lawyer that E.C. Aguma, SAN, was. His family and mine, had a very close personal relationship, which started with our fathers in the days of the Old Eastern Region. I will miss him sorely, and so will my wife and our children. As we join with his dear wife and colleague, Mrs Inime Aguma, their children, his mother, his siblings, the Governor, the Government and the good people of Rivers State, to mourn his loss, it is my prayer that the Almighty and Eternal God will grant divine comfort and consolation, to all who are bereaved by this monumental loss. I also pray God to grant his soul eternal rest in peace. Amen.
