Catholic Action, a non-partisan pressure group has tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to reorganise the security architecture before the 2019 general elections.

Chairman, Board of Trustees, Catholic Action, Peter Agbontaen made this call while addressing a press conference in Abuja.

He stated that the current security team will not deliver in protecting the lives and property of Nigerians and also in the conduct of 2019 elections.

“Going by what is happening, we do not have faith in the current security team. We call on the president to critically look into the security architecture and listen to the many calls of Nigerians to immediately reorganize the nation’s security apparatus”, he said.

He also urged the federal government to guarantee press freedom and must ensure that journalists are secured when carrying out their constitutional duties.

According to him, “We all know that press freedom is the cornerstone of every vibrant democracy. The security of every journalist is essential for freedom of reports which strengthens the elements if every democracy.

“Journalists are the beautiful brides of every democracy and as the bridegroom protects his bride, our government and security agencies must protect our journalists who are performing their duties especially with this looming dark clouds surrounding the eve of 2019 elections.”

He urged Nigerians to shun politicians who only act in their selfish interest, and those who only try to save their seats or avoid the hammer of the anti graft agencies.

“We should look out for candidates who has the right character to lead a complicated country like Nigeria, someone who is competent to take on the fight for a progressive nation and someone who will communicate his decisions, intentions to achieve the better Nigeria we dreamed of,” Agbontaen said.
