Foundation Empowers Pupils
Awesome Treasures Foundation, a faithbased non- governmental organisation which raises transformational leaders towards a national renaissance in line with the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs), recently, held its summer camp party for primary school pupils.
Already, the pupils drawn from less privileged settlements in Eti- Osa Local Government Area, Lagos, have already been taught subjects such as Mathematics and English with emphasis on basic reading, speaking, writing and numeracy sessions.
They also trained in leadership, morals and personality awareness, financial literacy as well as entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the 8th annual leadership summer Camp tagged, ‘ Camp Dawn’, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Ms Cindy said since its establishment 19 years ago, it has impacted the children in the area of leadership, education and health adding that over 100,000 people have benefitted from the initiatives.
She also emphasised on its initiative for teenage girls saying that the foundation empowers them in the area of sexuality and health Education on HIV/ AIDS awareness, personal hygiene, among others; as well as vocational training.
A volunteer and member of the foundation, Ms Bukola Adeagbo said the foundation plans to do a follow up measure in the schools the children are attending during the new academic session.
“The parents must be involved so that they can know what we are doing. We talk to them and let them know what is expected of them as parents. Its going to be a continuous work between now and the next academic session,” she said.
The pupils who had gone through the training, expressed excitement about their experience saying some of the things they learnt during the summer camp were what they had not been taught in their schools.
Prizes were given to pupils for their exemplary behavior and outstanding improvement in the area of academics.
