School Administrator Tasks Parents on Raising Well-rounded Children

The Administrator, Gladys School, Lagos, Mrs. Olayemi Usani has admonished parents and guardians to make conscious effort to raise children who are not only academically sound but responsible citizens with behavioural patterns acceptable to the larger society.
Usani who gave this advice, recently, while speaking with some journalists in Lagos, said it has become pertinent that parents pay attention to their children and wards’ behaviour by inculcating discipline and consistently monitor them to align them with set moral values and standards.
She stressed that apart from giving children quality education, parents should endeavour to expose and educate them to have good behaviour.
According to her, “It helps in shaping their minds to becoming agents of change in the society. Parental monitoring plays an active role in molding and shaping the lives of the children to contribute meaningfully to nation building.”
The school administrator hinted that it is one of the cardinal focus of Gladys School to develop platforms to engage parents on a continuous basis.
This, she noted, is in line with the school’s mission to reshape a battered society by reaching the totality of every child’s personality, empowering his conscience and intelligence for the child to be capable of impacting positively on his immediate and remote world.
The educationist advised parents to engage themselves in continuous learning, saying, “parents need to arm themselves with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to aid good parenting outcome.”
Quoting Henry Doherty, the educationists said, “Be a student as long as you still have something to learn and this will mean all your life.”
Usani encouraged parents to explore and utilise every available platform to positively affect their children’s behaviour and not necessarily restrict it to the school environment.
She asserted that students will always have something to learn and as a result, parents should be equipped to perform their tasks and role effectively.
“Parents should open lines of communication with their children as such safeguards them from being influenced negatively by their peers. When parents open channels of communication with their children, they are more shaped by the actions of such parents and ultimately assist the child in adopting right patterns of behaviour.”
