Methodist Old Girls Plan Walk to Raise Funds

A five kilometre health walk aimed at raising funds to improve girl’s education for the Methodist Girls High School, Yaba, Lagos alma mater will take place on Saturday, September 8, at the school premises.

Scheduled to kick off by 7.30am, the walk will herald a press conference billed for 12 noon on same day.

This, the associatio­n’s president, Mrs. Yomi Afolabi said will serve as a great opportunit­y to take a look round the school and meet some of group’s old girls in their late teens to nineties.

Methodist Girls High School, Yaba, founded in 1878, is one of the oldest schools for girls in Lagos. The school, over the years, has contribute­d greatly to the developmen­t of the girl-child and the nation as a whole.

The school has produced many eminent Nigerians who have contribute­d greatly to the socio economic developmen­t of our nation.

These include Mrs. Ibukun Awosika of First Bank, Nigeria; Mrs. Betty Irabor, veteran journalist and Publisher Genevieve magazine; Dr. Oluyinka Esan, Professor of Mass Communicat­ion and Reader in Media and Film at the School of Media and Film, United Kingdom and General Dr. Tilewa Amusu (rtd.)

This walk and the drive to keep improving the quality of education in the school, Afolabi noted is in line with the vision of the school to maintain the highest standards as laid by the founding missionari­es, adding, “the school pursues the best in the spiritual, emotional, intellectu­al, physical and social life of every student that passes through her walls”.
