GDPN Presidential Aspirant Promises to End Insecurity
The national president, Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria and presidential aspirant of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN) Davidson Akhimien, has said insecurity in Nigeria can be best addressed with social justice.
Akhimien, a retired military officer of the military intelligence extraction, said in Abuja, that given the mandate to lead Nigeria, he would address issues of structural conflicts, which he says is the root cause of insecurity in Nigeria.
According to him, “Some of the foundational problems of insecurity stem from pervasive injustices. Most of the security problems we are having today would not have been if not for this pervasive injustices. Wherever there is injustice, even the best security system will not hold sway.
“So, I am going to have a double prong approach. The first one is to ensure that there is justice and equality in the land. We are going to look at foundational problems. There is what you call structural conflicts. By the time we are able to close those rifts we have done 50 percent of the job. Then we will begin to look at the direct approach which is probably to bring in the forces as the case may be. When we so this, security problems will die a natural death.”
He also called for a more proactive security arrangement, noting that the Nigerian approach to insecurity is mostly reactionary,
“We need to be proactive. When GDPN comes into power in 2019 our approach to security will always be proactive! We have been doing reacting security,” he said.
He lamented that Nigeria, with its abundant mineral resources now ranks as world poverty headquarter, saying “It is a misnomer that a country endowed with so much natural resources as Nigeria ranks as a world capital of poverty
