The Nigeria-Britain Association has restated its commitment to deepen the bond between Nigeria and Britain in the area of business and fashion to boost the economies of the two countries.

The President of the association, Mr. Shola Tinubu, disclosed this at the unveiling of a Lagos-based fashion designer, Miss Bukola Adeogun, who emerged winner of this year’s Nigeria-Britain Association’s Fashion Competition. The competition was organised by the association, in partnership with GMYT Fashion Academy, a Lagos-based fashion training institute.

He explained that one of the focal points of the association, in recent times, remains the youths, hence the decision to organise a fashion competition, designed exclusively for upcoming designers within the age grades of 18 and 30.

Tagged ‘Expression’, the fashion competition which lasted for a month,

according to the association, was designed to harness potential and talents in the nation’s fashion industry and showcase them to the world.

According to him, the choice of Adeogun was arrived at the final rounds of the competition in Lagos, which had five finalists in attendance.

Tinubu added that besides getting a six-month Advanced Fashion Design

training at GMYT Fashion Academy, an industrial machine and a three- month mentorship with a fashion icon Adeola Sagoe, the winner will also have the opportunity to showcase her designs for the first time at the association’s Presidential Cocktails, scheduled for 27th September, this year, at the British Deputy High Commissioner’s residence, in Lagos.

“We believe this is a great one for the winner since the N-BA Presidential Cocktails remains one of the key signature events of the association. It is always well-attended by British Deputy High Commissioner, who is the Chief Host, top executives of Nigeria and British companies and well-meaning Nigerians and Britons. Having an opportunity to showcase designs at such a stage will definitely enhance their career of the winner,” the N-BA boss stated.

According to the president, the association which would be celebrating its

50th anniversary, next year, would also use the opportunity of the anniversary to touch lives of more passionate and industrious youth, by implementing sustainable programmes geared towards its main objectives.

Expressing her delight at the feat, Adeogun, who has her shop in Egbeda area of the Lagos metropolis, believes the win would go a long way in widening her horizon in the world of fashion.
