Stanbic IBTC Promotes Financial Literacy

- Ugo Aliogo

As part of efforts to promote inclusive banking, Stanbic IBTC Bank in partnership with Community Youth Development Initiative (CYCDI) has taken its financial literacy and wellbeing campaign to Covenant University.

Speaking at Covenant University, Ogun State, during the live broadcast of UN General Assembly event with the UN goal number three: ‘Wellbeing’ as the theme, the Head Personal Banking, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Nkolika Okoli, described Stanbic IBTC as an end-to-end financial institution, saying one of the core focus of the bank is youth empowerment.

Okoli, also stated that the partnership was strategic to the bank because it promotes the well-being of youths.

She stressed that the youths are a major focus for the bank.

According to her: “The partnership is strategic to us because it is promoting the well-being of youths.

“The youths are a major focus for us because what we are trying to do is to nurture the future Stanbic IBTC Bank customers, not just by waiting until they become adults and start earning money, but we are interested in ensuring that they grow up to be well-balanced adults who will do well in life and then we are assured of customers.

“The partnership has been strategic to us because we educate the youths. We have the pension business, wealth business and the bank.

So, when we come here we educate them beyond banking because they are used to banks telling them to open an account. But we educate them on how to start early; they can even start up an investment account as a student, just by setting aside N5000 from your pocket money.”

In his remarks, the ViceChancellor, Covenant University, Atayero Aaron-Anthony, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akan Williams, noted that the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is very important to the institution.

He commended the bank and CYCDI for the partnership.

Aaron-Anthony added: “We appreciate Stanbic IBTC Bank for the partnership and giving our students this sense of belonging. This UN event we are doing today, our students are indeed excited to be part of it. “We appreciate Stanbic IBTC Bank for coming to be like an external voice to galvanise our students towards getting themselves involved in what is happening in the world. We are hoping that this partnership is sustainable, not a onetime affair.”
