IoD Nigeria Inaugurate­s Ethics Committee

In line with its desire to ensure that its members are properly guided in their conducts and behaviour, the Institute of Directors, Nigeria (IoD Nigeria) has inaugurate­d an Ethics Committee.

The committee is saddled with the responsibi­lity of developing a code of ethics for its members.

According to statement made available to THISDAY by the Associate Director, Operations IoD, Segun Dipe, during the inaugurati­on of the seven-man committee recently, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of IoD Nigeria, Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Mohammed, urged the committee to come up with a set of guidelines that would encourage members to embrace sound business ethics and good corporate governance.

He said it was imperative that IoD members adhere strictly to the principle of corporate governance in their endeavours, recognise champions of good governance for adulation and identify erring members and employees for sanction.

Mohammed, noted that part of the desires of the institute is to ensure a clear and definite outline of ethical requiremen­ts of members and employees of the Institute for a proper understand­ing and adherence to a world-class business standard “and ensure that the institute was able to monitor the conducts of its members and employees.”

The seven-man Ethics Committee comprise seasoned corporate directors and is headed by Mrs. Amina Oyagbola. Other members are Alhaji Tijjani Borodo, Mr. Tunji Oyebanji, Mr. Femi Awoyemi and Ms. N.A. Chibututu, while Director General/CEO of IoD Nigeria Mr. Dele Alimi, and Executive Secretary of IoD Centre for Corporate Governance, CCG, Dr. Nechi Ezeako.
