PDP Presidential Aspirant Eyes FJP Ticket
The National Chairman of Freedom and Justice Party ( FJP), Mr. Breakforth Onwubuya has said that one of the presidential aspirants on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party has approached it for a ticket to run for presidency in the 2019 election.
As part of strategies to gain more defectors from the big political parties, Onwubuya said FJP has decided to hold its convention on October 7, the last day stipulated ny the Independent Electoral Commission ( INEC) for the exercise.
The FJP Chairman said in Abuja, while receiving nomination forms from an aspirant, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas seeking to contest the Senatorial seat in the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT), that politicians have sponsored new parties to use them as their alternative platforms.
He said that most of the newly registered political parties are fronting for politicians in the All Progressives Congress ( APC) and the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP).
According to Onwubuya he was privileged to know this in his capacity as the Deputy National Chairman of IPAC.
He said few elites with enormous resources claimed they own Nigeria and have hijacked the political space of the country, saying, “they control everyone through their numerous political parties. By the virtue of my former position as the former Deputy National Chairman of IPAC, which is the umbrella body of all registered political parties in Nigeria, I discovered that most of the parties were owned by the elites in the other parties.
“If I mention their names you will know. A former Vice President owns four political parties. Some Senators also own political parties. They give out money to some people to register political parties and many of these political parties have been hijacked.”
Onwubuya also narrated how IPAC was closely monitored by top politicians to ensure the umbrella body was not taking steps that were not in their interest.
On the programmes of the FJP, he said the party intends to address the issue of restructuring, embark on massive industrialisation and agricultural development.
